how to get info on network hardware?

Hi all,

How do I go about determining which hardware a particular interface is using. For example, how do I find that eth2 is using my pcmcia wlan card? Also, where do I find settings that control how the hardware is enumerated as which interface? For example, where can I force the pcmcia wlan card to be eth1?

it can be different in different distro's in Slackware go to /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf in Red Hat you cna go to /etc/network and look around

you should be able override the aliases in /etc/modprobe.conf
