Sorry if this is super easy, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet. I am trying to add a network printer (Lexmark Optra S 1250) to a RH 9.0 box. Both the printer and the Linux Box are connected to the same router. Theoretically, it seems all I should have to do is give Red Hat the IP address of the printer and the printer type and I'm good to go (theoretically
). Anyway, I've tried the GNOME print manager. I'm mostly confused on what to enter in the "Queue type" category. I've got options like "Networked CUPS", "Networked UNIX", etc. and do not know which one to choose. I tried using "Networked CUPS" but then got the two options: "Server" and "Path". I entered the printer's IP address for the "Server" category and left "Path" as the default "/printers/queue1". I also made an exception for the printer's IP address in my IP tables but only for TCP port 35 (correct printer port?).
Anyway, I could play with IP Table exceptions and different settings in the "Queue type" category for the GNOME print manager for the next couple hours, but am hoping someone can point me towards a quick installation guide for a networked PS printer with its own IP address.
BTW, everything else in the GNOME print manager seems straightforward.
