help network configuration and internet

I just installed redhat 7.2 but still have a few problems. I have 2 computers networked together. I have a cable modem and I share the internet connection between the 2 pcs by way of a linksys cable/dsl router (Model BEFSR41). im dual booting between redhat and windows xp pro. everything with the network and internet work fine in xp. With the router everything is dhcp so I dont need to put in any ip addresses or anything. But I cant get any of this to work in redhat. I was wondering if anyone knew what I had to do to get this to work. what info to put in ....etc. my ethernet cards are as follows:
3Com 3C905TX-based Ethernet Adapter and a
Linksys LNE 100TX(v5) Fast Ethernet Adapter.

I had a similar problem once in RH7.1. I was running the same Linksys card as you, along with some lame 10 dollar generic LAN card.

The problem had something to do with the fact that two cards existed in the machine and it was 'confused' with eth0 and eth1. To test this, I removed one card and voila, it worked after a reboot.

I have a feeling though that your RH7.2 box is acting as a gateway, am I right? If so, buy a hub, connect that to your router, and then connect each of your computers into the hub, that way you are in a more parallel configuration as opposed to a more series like one. And that is good.

if you would explain a little more exactly how you have things setup and how you want to utilize the network and such we can help you better.
ex) how you want the two comps connected their purposes and why you might have two nics in the one computer.

I actually think he is referring to both nics as in the type that is in either computer he has setup with a router..
one has a linksys and the other has a 3com.

both cards should be supported, are you wanting to install redhat and network both computers using linux on both machines ?? you should be able to run the netconfig utility program to setup your network in linux..
if that doesn't detect your nic during the probing, read up on the ethernet howto at www.linuxdoc.org for some good documentation..
