gentoo: NIC kernel module (davicom dm910af)
How can i install a NIC driver? There are a few issues, i'm installing gentoo off a 2004.1 livecd, gentoo-sources kernel version 2.4.25-gentoo-r1. This module, which is designed for kernel version 2.4 (vanilla i believe), requires /usr/src/linux/net/inet which doesn't seem to exist in my distribution. That is the first issue, it compiles regardless.
At this stage i have a running installation, using an uncompatible NIC driver. But then im unsure as to what i have to do to set up the new module. I placed the compiled module (dmfe.o) in the net/ directory from where the kernel loads up it's net modules, then changed /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4, and then did modules-update which gave me an error (unresolved symbols in dmfe.o) which makes sense.
How can i set this up correctly. The module is available at :
www (dot) davicom (dot) com (dot) tw/eng/download/Driver/driver_9102a.htm
I chose the linux kernel 2.4 release of the module, and compiled dm9xs.c according to the readme included in the download.
I would really apreciate any help. Treat me as a newbie, though i try to think i'm not one.
Thank you,
Mario
