general samba / NIS question

Hey,

I would like to set up a server for all of my family's documents, some of us use Windows (multiple flavors) some (me) use Linux.

To do this; I would use Samba, correct?

Also, is it possible to have my directory (on the server) be my home directory (on the workstation), all the while being nicely auto mounted by linux at boot-time?

Is this possible?

I'm simply wondering if I'm heading in the right direction, making sure my fantasies keep up with reality, more or less.

later,

samba

All of what you said is correct. I am having Samba problems myself but two weeks ago it was working. You will want to review the RedHat manual on Samba at the ff link

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...nfiguring.html

I should also mention that I use RHL v 9 & Windows 2000 Prof. I don't know how it would work with earlier Windows versions.

Thank you for the quick reply.

As long as I hear that it *can* be done, that's all that matters.

I just wanted to check to see if it was plausible.

Thanks again.
