FTP User?

I have a user on my machine called "ftp" and he even has a home dir. "/home/ftp"...

I am unable to "su ftp" so I am really in the dark as to why I need this home directory / user on my server.

That account is reserved for the ftp user by the system. You cannot switch to the user ftp because logins to that account are disabled by default on most systems.

OK - so I do need that account then I assume since I am running vsFTPd server. I just never would need to manually connect to it from the machine or through FTP, right?
