Fedora 7 / Windows XP WORKGROUP F7 works great XP doesn't

First time Fedora 7 user. Small workgroup on xp pro. Trying to make Fedora a file vault. Fedora gets on workgroup with no problem. Sees all the xp machines and can retrieve files and such. XP can locate Fedora machine (with some digging on the search option) but can not access "\\Localhost is not accessible...... The Server service is not started."

I've set up Samba with a folder to share with visible and writable checked, and allow access to everyone. The server settings I've used alot of variables but authentication mode 'user' authentication server is blank kerberos realm is blank Encrypt passwords 'yes' Guest account 'nfsnobody' (I read that this is what to use somewhere, I could be wrong. well, apparently I AM wrong. In the Service Configuration I have network, nfs,nmb,smb with others checked. I have set the 'permissions' on the folder to read and write. Anyway, I thank anyone ahead of time for any help with this. And again, I am a first time user so please dumb down your answers as best as you can.

Hi Lunarizing, Welcome to lq. What does your /etc/samba/smb.conf look like? Have you added smb users?
Good luck. ;-)

Thumbs up Got it working

To answer your question here it is.

[global]
workgroup = vw
netbios name = Big-Burtha
security = share
server string = Big Burtha
; encrypt passwords = yes
; guest ok = no
; guest account = nobody

[c]
comment = c
path = /c
force user = vw
force group = users
writeable = yes
guest ok = yes
; browseable = yes

I think this leaves it wide open to whomever, but at this point it works and thats what I needed. I will alter it here and there when I have the time to test things out. It was a HUGE pain in my old ass to learn something new like this but at the same time it was fun to get back into a prompt. I have gotten very lazy with windows, click click click done (up to a point). Thanks for your attempt to help anyway. But most, including myself, learn a bit better if they'll just stop screaming at the screen and read a bit.

I've got this working with Autodesk Civil 3D and Autodesk Land Desktop. Everything looks to be working fine, and C3D&LDT hasn't worked "fine" in about 3 years. If Autodesk would come out with a version thats Fedora Compatible my world would be SOOOOOOO wonderful. But as for now it's time for me to begin trying to learn this "wine" thing.
