Unhappy Fa311 (again) on SW8/2.4.17

Hi there..
I'm having some problems when trying to get the netgear fa311 to work under slackware 8.0 with the 2.4.17 kernel.. the kernel finds the card when I'm booting, but I get no link.. I've got 2 NICs in the computer (the other one is a HP Lan+, eth0) and the other one works fine and is configured on boot by slackware.. so I run "ifconfig eth1 192.168.0.6 up" and when I run ifconfig it says "UP BROADCASTING..." on the eth1 and tells me the ip... but when I insert the cable the link led is not blinking and I have no connection with the network... I've compiled "National Semiconductor 8381x" into the kernel.. I've also tried with the natsemi.c and the drivers from netgear.com.. none worked..

any suggestions are welcome! thanks!

Sounds like the error is in the connection, not in your server.

What module are you currently using for the card? I have a couple of those and use the natsemi module on slackware 8.1 kernel 2.4.18.

Since slackware thinks it is working but it isn't, I would switch what PCI slot the card is in. I have had a similar problem in the past. It could be an IRQ conflict.
