Smile Ethereal

Hi,

i have installed Suse 9.1 Pro and i have just installed the ethereal. When i run it as simple user, when i start the capturing i get a message that among others says
socket: Operation not permitted.
What privileges should i give to my account so as to run it?

Thanks!

When i log as root in a konsole inside my account and run ethereal, i get the message that
Xlib: connection to ¨:0.0¨ refused by server
Xlib: no protocol specified

(ethereal:6187): Gtk-Warning **: cannot open display

Can i use the xserver with root when i´ m logged in as user?

Or - do you know a program that can watch the activity of my network? I´ d like something like Net Limiter for windows. It saves logs of all the activity.

Thanks!

you need to run this command as the regular user before root can use the display:

xhost +

do a "man xhost" for more info...
