error proxy server (slackware9)

I have install linux today....
I have a problem with the internet conection via a proxy server in slackware 9 ,(mozilla and konqueror).In winXP pro ,ie-->tools->
internet options-->conections--> lan setings--> :
i use a proxy server (the same for all protocols) which is :

proxy.teikav.edu.gr and port : 8080

and it works.

but mozilla and konqueror don't find the proxy server
(konqueror requires the protocol before the server name , i try http:// and doesn't work)

what is going wrong ?
( the network neiborhood is working)
