Well, I might have been able to install a 32-bit network interface driver to a 64-bit system. Who knows? Other than that, it is probably not worth all the crap I went through, trying to get things functioning. I am probably better off with a new system anyhow.

I looked at instructions to downgrade to driver 8168, and I remember trying to install it in this Linux environment, and it would not install. Errors popped up. I will try things with my new computer, with Linux, and if I still get problems, I will return it and have to go to Windows for a few years till Linux gets all its rocks in one sock.

Well, I screwed up again. Then, I got fed up and deleted the Linux install and replaced it with my Windows 7 install. I am having so many fits with this problem that I think I would be better off this way for awhile until I get the procedure correct to fixing the problem. I will install Linux into a virtual environment as a guest, with Windows 7 as host. I found a Mint forum where there was a user who had success in solving this problem, and the process looked promising. We'll see how goes when I get to it. I'll keep you all posted.

I think you guys posting earlier might have been on to something, hinting at different NIC manufacturers, i.e.---Intel. I came across this page

http://www.dummies.com/how-to/conten...tatus-usi.html

and am now thinking that using an Intel NIC, fitting into a PCIe slot on my motherboard, is going to be the way to go. Note the website that grabbed my attention.

Well, using an expansion nic now, by Intel.

I think I have been able to disable r8169 so that it no longer shows up in my

$ lsmod

command.

If I remember correctly, the instructions I used were found at the following:

I had this thread marked as [SOLVED] for a few days this last week. However, even after all the attempts at fixing this network connectivity, I still had an problem getting pages to load in my browser of choice, Google Chrome. I say this in general terms because I am not completely sure if my network connection gets dropped, or if something is buggy in my browser, or if the issue is a DNS resolution issue. So, for now, the problem is still unsolved since an instance of it occurred just this morning. Had to reboot. I think I should try to remember to start posting uptimes in the morning on a daily basis, so that I can share this particular performance with the readers of this thread.

Current uptime:

john@debian:~$ uptime
11:38:37 up 6:14, 2 users, load average: 0.36, 0.30, 0.36

At first I was dubbing this problem a loss of internet connection. Now that I am not sure, and now that I am reading my Chrome error more closely, and paying closer attention to it, I would now rather dub my problem a DNS lookup problem, because that is the error my browser is giving me.

It just occurred a moment ago, and although that happened, I still took a moment to print my uptime. It read as follows:

Quote:
john@debian:~$ uptime
04:36:45 up 6:31, 2 users, load average: 0.29, 0.16, 0.09
john@debian:~$ uptime
10:22:29 up 1 day, 12:17, 2 users, load average: 0.29, 0.16, 0.11
john@debian:~$
The second output is from today, just a moment ago.

It has been a few days since I posted. But, as I recall, I have rebooted twice since I last posted. The first one was a dns lookup failure. The second reboot had nothing to do with dns lookup failure.

Here is the daily uptime output I promised.

Code:
john@debian:~$ date
Wed Aug 20 11:36:14 MDT 2014
john@debian:~$ uptime
 11:36:16 up 1 day, 20:56, 2 users, load average: 0.16, 0.14, 0.14
john@debian:~$ date
Wed Aug 20 11:36:17 MDT 2014
