download problems

hello. this isn't necessarily a linux problem, because i have the same problem in windows xp. however, i'm using primarily linux, so i'd prefer to fix it in linux first.

anyway, i'm running mandrake 9.1 on my laptop. i have a p4 1.6 ghz and 256 mb ram. i connect to the internet in my apartment through a cable service at 512 mbps (my provider enables you to choose your speed for different prices). i have a linksys wireless b router connected to the cable modem, and i access it through a dell truemobile pcmcia card.

anyway, my question is this: when i am physically connected to the cable modem with an ethernet cable, i have no problems downloading. however, when i connect through the wireless card/router, downloads tend to stall, and i have to stop and restart them (usually anything over 1 mb) in order to finish. my cable provider told me there's nothing i can do about that, but i figured i would check here, just in case there is a way to increase dependability of downloads through the wireless.

oh, i usually download through opera. i tried kget, but everytime i tried the pause/resume function, it would start over at the beginning of the download, and i couldn't get anything to finish.

thanks for any help anyone may have.

Perhaps use wget so you can resume. It's obviously a hardware or packet size/MTU issue. So, the OS fixing it isn't likely. It's between the card and the wireless gateway. More specifically the gateway/router.
