DNS without using FQDNs

DNS seems to be set up on our 'rcminternal.com' zone. Ping, nslookup, dig, etc work fine.

I'm trying to make it so i can just ping the hostname and not the fqdn.

On linux boxes, i just edit /etc/resolv.conf to have

serach rcminternal.com
nameserver 10.0.3.209

on those boxes i can ping any hostname fine.

However the majority of our laptops are windows based and cant do this ping with hostname only. any suggestions?

Thanks,
Brent

If you are using DHCP for the laptops, you can specify the doman-name. Windows will use it. Otherwise you have to go the the Advanced TCP/IP Settings for the network interface.
