DNS setup for 3 urls, one external statiic IP
We are about to add 2 new software sites to an existing one. All 3 sites are pointing to the same external static IP. The configuration includes 3 nic cards, dual processors, Apache2, sendmail, and dns(bind 9.2).
Eth0 is assigned 192.168.10.0. It is the private lan used for software development and will allow no incoming internet traffic period. eth0:1 and eth0:2 are associated with the private addresses for the other 2 sites.
Eth1 is what some folks refer to as a dmz. It serves the web and mail traffic separately for each of the 3 sites. There are (will be) restrictions as to incoming traffic, but outgoing will be unrestricted.
Eth2 is the router to the internet.
This seems at first needlessly complicated, but I have 2 considerations in mind. First, I want to easily break out any site as it ibuilds traffic and move it to a colocation with minimum upheaval.
Secondly, I have to remember that because the sites will require SSL, I must use IP numbers, not names, for virtual hosting, and probably 2 instances of Apache as well. Setting up dns in this way should make maintenance easier.
I'm a veteran program developer, familiar with all these components, but multiple sites on one server is not something I have had to attempt in the past.
If anyone would care to comment or critique, your insight and help would be very much appreciated, and I'll do my very best to reciprocate when problems come up that I know my way around in.
My thanks
