Dialup from RH72 slower than from Win2K on same machine

Using this box booted to Win2K results in acceptable dial-up performance. But when I boot over to RedHat 7.2 and use the same internet provider, it runs noticably slower. Are there some specific Linux configuration issues I should be aware of? Any other potential problems?

How did you notice this slowdown? Can you quantify it?

All web page loads take at least 4 to 6 times as long. Where under Win2K I see a particular page paint in five to ten seconds, under Linux that page can take as long as a minute or more.

That really doesn't help. How about doing a Rate Test from your ISP's ftp site to get the raw speed of transfers? You do need to do this test more than once , of course.

This will determine whether the problem is raw speed or your browser/network configuration
