I just set up my 56k conexant modem but unfortunately I have really frequent disconnections under redhat8.0, I raised the timeout but that doesn't solve the problem
am I missing something? I don't know what I can configure and where since I'm quite a newbie :\
I had the same problem - I know it isn't right, but raising the timeout didn't have any effect for me and, in frustration, I just deleted the timeout line altogether and it started working. If you get a better solution, I'll be interested.
i'm having the same problem. i remain connected to the net for only 30 to 40 secs and then it gets disconnected automatically.
i'm using ubuntu dapper and my modem is ltmodem
Friends...two solutions. A) Use external serial modem to the RS-232 port of YOUR system Motherboard in YOUR Linux Box. The interface includes integrated chip that does the work that the software does on PCI modems. 5 minute install to the internet. B) Use PCI modem<s> that require much time and much software. They can work, if YOU put the time in. IMHO, use the RS-232 connection. The Linux Kernel supports the connection,...it is more reliable.
