After finally getting linux to recognize my ethernet card, and managing to get it to activate correctly and everything... I can't seem to see the network.
If i tell it to use DHCP, it won't activate. DHCP is enabled on my router, and my 3 other computers are using it to obtain their IP's, so linux is the problem.
So I assigned it a generic IP (192.168.1.6)... that works fine, and I can activate eth0 when I do that. However, I can't ping 192.168.1.2 form the other computers, and I see no signs of it actually being connected to the network, or sharing my networks internet connection. Any ideas?
Anyhow, i think you should clarify your post a little as its a tiny obscure over the general personnal network layout, however i will gove you the generic advice.
Check your /etc/network/interfaces and verify you have :
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
Check ifconfig eth0, play with all sorts of ifup eth0 ifdown also. The broadcast should be the same on all the hosts in your network and you dont really assign manualy an ip if your using dhpc.
For our understanding of your question post a /var/log/syslog while you try to activate your network with ifup eth0, a cat /etc/networks, a ifconfig and while you're at it, post a config-sample of another host on your network.
