DHCP from own VM

Hi all,

I'm trying to get an interface to get an IP (DHCP) from a VM (PfSense) which is running locally. Can't seem to get it to work though. I have QEMU setup with this particular interface in bridge mode.

Here is my netplan (I'm on Ubuntu Server 18.04.02 LTS)

Code:
network:
    ethernets:
       enp9s4:
           addresses: []
           dhcp4: true
           optional: true
Any help much appreciated. Bit of a linux noob
Cheers

Can you check whether the DHCP request arrives at the VM? Could it be that the VM host blocks DHCP requests, or doesn't forward any traffic to the VM?

Are you sure you are correctly bridging the VM to the host's network? E.g. give the DHCP client a static IP and check if you can access it from the VM. You could also share the bridge parameters, or the output of the ip address and virsh domiflist (if you manage the VM with libvirt) commands on the VM host.

Don't think there was anything blocking the actual traffic; as it works nicely with a static IP. Just would like to control everything from pfsense if possible.

I also have a bonded 4 NIC that gets issued a DHCP no problems a minute or so after the VM boots. They however aren't the LAN interface.

Messed around for ages adding additional private virtual NICS and doing bridges etc; could not get it to work.

Sick of it now; and have just gone with the extra wire. Must be some solution though...
