Against my better judgment I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on a laptop for my wife. I have been running Fedora for quite a while now. Well I have a cups server running on the Fedora machine and am not quite sure how to get the Ubuntu laptop to see the Cups server.
Both computers have static ip addresses in the 192.168.1 range.
Also, when I installed Ubuntu on the laptop, it wasn't hooked up to the network. After the fact I couldn't get it configured using the standard gui tools. So I manually entered the values in /etc/network/interfaces & /etc/resolv.conf.
It works, but when we went to try out the wireless at Panera, it clobbered the resolv file. I have recreated the resolv file and made a backup so I can easily restore it in the future, but there must be a better way? What should I do to prevent this?
