Creating Linux DNS records

Hello,

I am involved in my company's virtual build automation and I am trying to come up with a way to programmically create a DNS record for a Linux server. This would eliminate time the server engineers need to take to request the DNS record before the server is built. Currently we are using another Windows server to run a cmdlet to create the DNS record for the new Linux build but I was hoping to not have to utilize another server, especially Windows just to complete this simple task.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could create this record within Linux or in a more efficient manner?

thanks,

What DNS server are you running? If you are using a standards-based server, then you can use nsupdate.
