I would like to setup and run a linux proxy server so that I can bypass the web protection at some places. I am a somewhat experienced linux user...but I don't know what software I should use. Any suggestions? Perhaps, squid?
I am going to be running this out of my house, for me and some of my friends. Right now I have two personal computers behind my router...I'm not too familiar with the networking aspect. Should I place the proxy outside of the DMZ? Should I forward the ports (this is probably what I should do...).
Also I have tried to install Squid in the past -- the configuration is so difficult! Does anyone have any advice/know of any good guides?
I haven't decided which distro to use yet...I generally use slackware (it's whats on my home pc). But I was condsidering using freebsd just for the hell of it.
Oh and I don't know if I was clear: I'm running the proxy out of my house, but I will need to access it AWAY from my house at school...so port forward?
