Default Gateway - 5.2.1.1

I have defined the new ip address for LINUX as below

IP Address(i.e winodw 7) - 5.2.1.221
Subnet Mask - 144.144.144.0
Default Gateway - 5.2.1.1

I am not able to ping the LINUX IP adress from host system(5.2.1.221).

IP address defined in linux in following places.

1. Applicatoins -> Sytstem Settings -> Network
2. vim /etc/resolv.conf

Where did you get this kind of subnet mask?

Hi Ilesterg,

I have placed the dummy subnet mask for security purpose.

Hi madhu,

Welcome to LQ

My good advice to you that please use IP address above 10.XXX.XXX.XXX also use default gateway's ip address to 10.XXX.XXX.XXX
and use subnet mask as 255.XXX.XXX.XXX

it will work, it pings from Windows to linux also vice versa.

Thanks,
