connecting linux host to a windows VM on RHEL

Hi All,

I am totally new to this forum and my issue from last few weeks has pulled me to this forum. can anyone please help me with my problem:

I have installed Redhat Enterprise Linux on my host and using XEN virtualisation to create 2 VMs. since my both Vms are windows server 2008, it can connect to one another but both can't connect to the host. at 1 point 1 of the servers did connect but i dont do anything different installing both servers. I have laready tried adding the interfaces ( I have 2 NICs on my host) to the bridge but then the NIC stopa working. I think this is something small am missing on but i really need help.

Thanx
Bimz

Hi Bimz,

I would start by determining the IP address info for each machine. On Linux run ifconfig and on the Windows machines ipconfig /all. Please post the results of these commands.

Also, make sure you have iptables off and selinux disabled just in case. And by the way what are the ports that you are trying to connect to?

thanks guys for the feedback, but i managed to get it working thou it tuk me weeks to understand how it worked. I had to create bridges for both the network cards. i refered to this website
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...stallstart.htm

I also had to add the bridge using /usr/sbin/brctl command. then upon retstarting the network services ( /sbin/ service network restart ) the network connections window will show 2 extra connections by the name of the bridges created. these bridges got activated but the network cards we inactive. I still cudn't ping the host but i did sum research nd found out that I had to enable the stp for (/usr/sbin/brctl stp bridgename start) that bridge. nd bingo i got my host ping ny VM and vice versa. for the VMs to connect since they were both windows server 2008, i enabled routing (RRAS - RIP) and since the VMs also had 2 NICs each, i added one to the physical for connecting the host and the internal ones I dint use the physical connection while adding the new hardware. Instead I added the Default network connection. dats how my network worked.
