I just started to read about SNMP.Now i want to configure SNMP-snmp.conf
But i dont understand what a COMMUNITY means and the various terms used in the snmp.conf file.
If someone let me know how to configure SNMP and the details for snmp.conf then it would be of great help.
SNMP retrieves and sets data, is terribly insecure, but so cool
You set it up so that it collects information from certain devices that you instruct it to - usually this is a subnet - community I think it is sometimes referred to
A community string is just the passphrase that SNMP will use to collect the information that you are probing for
This is UDP traffic and is sent in clear text across the network - fire up your ethereal to capture the packets and check it out
