cisco router messing my lan server around

Hey there,
at my company, we have a big Cisco Router. Since we have wanted to go live with some customer info on the web, we set up a debian system, apache, php, mysql, .....
forwarded port 80 to the server (10.10.10.04) and it serves up everything nice. except images from cgi scripts.

the thing might have to do with the fact that from inside the lan, we have to go to the web page via ip address of the server (http://10.10.10.04) but we can use the domain.com address from outside the lan. if you go to the ip from inside the network, you get the admin login for the cisco router.

anyway, if i write a simple html page in the web_root, its ok, the images can be viewed from outside the lan, and inside the lan. but for a script to do it (python-cgi), it doesnt work because the images are referenced like src="image.jpg" and i guess since scripts run from the cgi-folder instead of web_root, it can't find them. i tried copying them over to the cgi-bin folder, but still no dice. i have tried to source the image as src='domain.com/image.jpg' but this does not work either. funny though, i can go to www.domain.com/image.jpg and it loads fine from outside the lan

what is the html syntax i can use to both set a background image, and get images to load whereever i log in from?

thanks, know this is a long one..

How about (for an image http://domain.com/images/img1.jpg):
Code:
<img src='/images/img1.jpg' alt='img1.jpg' title='img1' />

ok, this got an image to load
src = 'http://www.mydomain.com/image.jpg

but the syntax is different for loading a background image, and nothing i put in there seems to be working.

thanks for your help.
i was wondering if this might be a cgi-bin issue, and if i should use php embedded in the html from web root to do this
is that poor design or really bad security?
thanks

I have always placed my PHP scripts in the normal directories, and I believe that's the conventional way of doing things.
