Changing IP Addresses on the fly

Hi guys, a lot of times on my RedHat system, I need to disconnect my NIC from my private network, so I can connect to the Internet. Is there an equivalent to the (sorry) Windows IPCONFIG /release /renew combination (by using IFCONFIG perhaps). It seems cumbersome to have change my network settings everytime I need to alternate between networks.

Regards

Terry

setup a linux router w/ firewall... you wont need to move your nic card then either.

check the man pages for ifconfig, ifup, and ifdown. I think you also have to have a dhcp client installed.

Or try /etc/init.d/network restart as root.
