I got a problem printing files with long filenames and that includes the
directory names. It appears that the total filename and directory names
cannot be more than about 50 characters.
I'm sending .prn files that are converted by windows driver.
When I shorten the filename or directories, I can get it to print.
However, when I use the original filename, it can't.
I did a lpq and this is what I see:
Queue: 1 printable job
Server: pid 2299 active
Unspooler: pid 2300 active
Status: sending control file 'cfA298swan.sgx.bln' to raw@15.1.8.50 at 18:04
....
Waiting connection from 15.1.8.47 lpd Service.
I'm using apsfilter and printing to a network printer and using Slack8.1
After doing experiments, it appears that lpr cannot support too many character after the -P so that includes printername, directories and filenames. It is about 60-70 characters.
This is important for me because I'm doing tests and there are many files to print so it is important to have long filenames that differentiates the files. Please help. THanks

To be honest, I have no idea what the limit is, but I did find references to limits of 30 or so characters in other operating systems that implement the LPD protocol.

I really don't know. You may want to surf over to http://www.linuxprinting.org and maybe even try to contact the folks over there and describe your problem to them.
