cannot ping |ssh|telnet due to proxy


My institute has squid proxy server so I am not able to ping or ssh or telnet to any address outside such as www.yhaoo.com.
Please help.

this has nothing to do with squid. squid is an http proxy, not a router. you need to enable routing (ip forwarding) seperately to squid.

just search this site for "ip_forward" and you'll get literally hundreds of answers. searching rocks!

I dont have administrative priviliges to the things that i could fine that way.

if you do not have administrative permissions, then it would seem that you should not be doing it at all....?

it's not a case of doing it "that way" that's how you enable routing under linux. if you do not enable routing, you can not route, and so you can not ping, ssh etc... you may wish to look at tunneling over http for some services, or tunneling through ssh via http proxies, but that's not routing either.
