Cannot edit files on smbfs mount

Im sure this is somthing stupid but im not sure how to fix it.
i have a win98 share with full rwx access on the network, i used fstab to mount the network drive but i cannot edit the files. i look at the properties of the files and it shows root as the owner but i know thats not the case. how do i change the file permissions so i can edit my word documents on the network.

this is how i used fstab to mount my network drive

//server/share /mnt/share smbfs username=rob,password=xxx

You'll need to use some uid or gid parameters in your fstab command to get it to work. Read though this link to see how to do it:
