cannot connect to the internet with dialup modem and kppp

hi,
i isntalled the fedora core2 and driver for the conexant hsf modem, now i wnat to connect to the interner with kppp,it can dial the isp but it is breaking in it's last stage of "loging on to network.." the error message is:
Timeout expired while wating for the ppp interface to come out!
then i download the latest pppp update for fc2 and installed it also increased the timeout to it's maximum limit of 120 seconds but still there is the same problem,plz help me.

Just curious, it did install ppp right? I haven't used Mandrake in a while so I can't remember how to check to see if it is. I did run into that once with Gentoo though. I left it out of the kernel.

Oh, Kppp does the dialing. PPP maintains the connection to the server on the other end. You might say Kppp is what you see, ppp is the part that is in the background.
