From some strange resons i can not ping my Wwwserver pc on LAN with 2 machines one Linux Mandrake 9 and 2nd Win2K. In /etc/hosts i got:
127.0.0.1 localhost
only one entry, Is that corect? I read few thread about similar issue and that file had many entries each one for seperate Machin on LAN. Shoul I munualy enter the 2nd pc IP there? or shoul my Linux Mach. enter the entry by itself or should it broadcat the LAN for the IP ?
If you are behind a DHCP server, it should set that up on it's own. I'm pretty sure the /etc/hosts/ file will read "localhost" when it cannot get a address from a DHCP server or a name from a DNS server (correct me if I am wrong). You need to check out your "ifcfg-eth0" file for details regarding whether it is trying to use DHCP or not, and if not what the static IP is set to. I forget the directory, just "su root" and do "locate eth0". It should be /etc/network-scripts/...

You rock Man, You sound like you REALY know what you talking about. THX man. I have to go for shopping now cause they close at 9 supper market and when I come back i will check it out. But can say now that before everything was ok I didn't have to munualy enter Name and Its IP in host file. But now I have to in order to ping the other PC ( win2000) on my LAN. It should user broadcast addresss 192.168.1.255 if linux doesn't knwo the name, apperently it doesn't work the command now. Any other possiblility to check or any troubleshoots?
