can't get D-Link 704P rev A router to coexist with speedstream 5100 ADSL modem
I'm trying to learn linux networking on my own, but I have found nothing but frustration so far. I have a D link DI-704p revA router and speedstream 5100 ADSL modem. My ISP is SBC Yahoo! DSL. What I would like to do is set up my desktop and laptop to share my internet connection. Both are running Slackware 10.0 and can connect to the internet when connected directly to my ADSL modem. However, I can't connect to anything once I have the router connected. SBC uses DHCP and Dynamic IP addresses. I set my router (whose IP address is 192.168.0.1) as the default gateway by using route add default gw 192.168.0.1. I've configured my router to use DHCP. I've pinged the router, but I can't make heads or tails out of the output. Please tell me what I am doing wrong.
BTW- SBC Yahoo DSL works like most cable providers and doesn't use PPPoe and doesn't require a password or anything to log on
