Can't connect to wireless router using Ubuntu 9.04

I'm trying to connect to a new Belkin wireless router, but wicd refuses to connect. I've been reading some of the other threads but they haven't made much sense as the hardware is different. The output from the iwconfig command is as follows:

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

eth1 no wireless extensions.

eth2 no wireless extensions.

ra0 RT2860 Wireless ESSID:"" Nickname:"RT2860STA"
Mode:Auto Frequency=2.462 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate:1 Mb/s
RTS thrff Fragment thrff
Link Quality=10/100 Signal level:-82 dBm Noise level:-87 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

pan0 no wireless extensions.

When I ran lspci it told me I had a RaLink RT2800 802.11n PCI Network Controller. On the box it says it "Supports the most popular systems" and mentions Linux. I'm using a 63 character WPA2 password, which has been copied from a USB key, so I know that is correct.

What am I doing wrong?

Can you obtain functionality via the Just Works (tm) feature of the Network Manager Applet?

Hi,

I can't see any 'just works' feature on the Wicd network manager, but when I hit the 'refresh' or 'connect' buttons no connection is made.
