BT broadband on Linux and Windows

Hello,

Don't know if anyone can help...

I currently dual boot Windows XP / MEPIS and my ISP is BT. At the moment I use the modem / router supplied by BT (Voyager 210) but want to replace it.

Can anyone recommend a replacement which will work under both operating systems?

I'm not too concerned about wireless, as I don't have much use for this at the moment.

Any help or advice much appreciated!

I can't recommend a specific model, but I suggest you look for a modem/router with an ethernet port. A modem router usually has about 4 ports so you can connect several devices to the same router. You can buy cheap modem/routers from the likes of ebuyer.

I have used the Zoom X4 & X5 with BT: they work fine and are really easy to set up. The X5 was better because it had 4 Ethernet ports, and acted as a switch/router for my network.
I now have a Netgear DG834G which, again, was a breeze to set up, runs its own firewall, and sorts out the wireless for my laptop, as well as the 4-port ethernet switch for the other computers.

All the above do not care what your OS is: The internet "Just arrives" over the ethernet connection. You only need to set it up once (I just used linux, but you can do it from windows, if you have it), then any OS that is connected to the box gets its internet.

what's wrong with the 210? it's a kick ass little linux based one port router. it's great. and reminds me of the aliens from Batteries Not Included.
