Bridging routers via a linux box

Hi,

I've recently dug out and repaired an old router I had lying around. Now I want to put it to use, but the configuration I'm trying to set up is beyond me.

I have two routers, one which has wireless (router A), and the other does not (router B). Router B is connected via cable to my main linux computer, and my main computer is connected to router A via wireless (cable wasn't an option unfortunately).
What I want to do is to use my computer as a middle-man between the two routers like this:

= cable
* wireless

[router B] === [computer 1] *** [router A]

computer 1 is connected via WIRELESS to router A
computer 1 is connected via CABLE to router B

router A has other WIRELESS computers connected
router B has other CABLED computers connected (it has no wireless feature)

router A runs the DHCP server
each router has other computers connected to them
computers connected to router A must be able to communicate with those connected to router B, and vice-versa
routers connected to router B must be able to access the internet, via router A
computers connected to router B must be able to obtain an IP via DHCP from router A

However I don't have a clue how to configure everything to do that. If anyone has any help they offer I'll gladly try it!

If I haven't explained it very well, let me know and I'll try to explain it better

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps!

Normally, you would daisy chain the routers directly, i.e.:

routerA===routerB====computer1

You would need to disable dhcp on routerB and properly configure both routers. Run a CAT5 from a LAN port from your routerB over to the primary routerA's LAN port. Do not use your routerB's WAN port. There are other ways of running the cable from a secondary to a primary router: secondary's uplink port to primary's LAN port; secondary's LAN port to primary's uplink port. They all work the same if secondary LAN port to primary LAN port won't work (e.g. router doesn't have ability to autodetect cable's usage). Basically, that will convert routerB to a switch.

Google "cascading routers" and you will find a lot of step by step howtos on this subject, eg:

http://networksolutions4u.blogspot.c...ple-guide.html

When you cascade the routers like I described above, they will have all the desired characteristics described in your post:

Quote:
router A runs the DHCP server
each router has other computers connected to them
computers connected to router A must be able to communicate with those connected to router B, and vice-versa
routers connected to router B must be able to access the internet, via router A
computers connected to router B must be able to obtain an IP via DHCP from router A
