Bind 9 question

What I want to do here, is to have my domain name, <mysite.org> for example, set up without paying some registrar to do it for me. The reason for this is to learn how the system works so that I can offer my own domain name registration services.

I was told that I could accomplish this using bind9. So, I downloaded it, installed it and have read the complete user manual and about three other websites and Im still confused as to how to achieve this.

Does anyone have any information on how to do this? Or can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

One of us is confused. I could be mis-understanding your question. Bind is just a name server and has absolutely nothing to do with domain name registration.
You have to register a domain name with someone, for example I use Tucows. Once you register your domain name you tell them where your DNS servers are (ip address) and then the Bind you just installed will be used to resolve all the hosts in your domain. But you can't be a registrar just by having a DNS service running.

I think the OP is interested in learning how to become a domain registrar. A simple search for "How to become a domain registrar" at yahoo/google resulted in a few hits.

yeah I just figured this out. According to my research becoming a registrar is pretty complex and involves a ton of wallet space........lol.

Thanks for the posts.
