I'm not certian this is the correct place for my post so apologies in advance if it is not.
I'm farily new to linux and have being trying to print to my Epson Stylus photo 830 which is connected to the parralel port on my smc barricade broadband router.
From hunting around using google i have found that it uses a remote LPD que, I have found that I use the address of the router as the server path (ie 192.168.123.254) and that the que name is one of the following:
lp
lpt1
LP
I have tried to set these settings with various gui's (KDE Control Centre, printtool, http://localhost:631/) but although it sets up fine and appears to have all the correct settings I havn't had any success.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Doug
btw the printer will print fine from a windows machine
I have the right driver and changing to smb doesn't help I am also having trouble getting a printer on a windows machine on my home network to print using smb, I did have it printing test pages before I reinstalled mandrake 9 from the cds but now it won't play either.
I don't think this should be necesary, windows prints through it and i've found evidence of many people managing to configure it without this step. Turning off the firewall really isn't an option - is there anyway I can test to see if this is the problem with out truring it off?
A question from a real novice. I just got Mandrak 9.1 loaded on an old IBM ThinkPad and it is great. But I am so new to Linux I can't even follow your directions once you have the answer.
So how can I set up a printer, should I use Mandrake Control Center? MCC seems to only want to look for already attached printers, and the Barricade PS does not show up as a printer (not too suprised - but my wifi card automatically got set up just fine).
