auto reconnect pptp connections

I've connected two of my servers which are far away from each other via a simple pptp server/client connection which works for me fine, but every week a can see at least one time this VPN connection is disconneted,
How can I confgiure it to reconnect ( or try for 100 times to reconnect ) on disconnection?
I'm using CentOS5 on both sides.

Do you know why it disconnects? Are there any messages in a log file which might explain it? If there's no connectivity problems it shouldn't 'just happen'. I do know that you can have a 'ping' heartbeat with some VPN setups, that can be configured to reconnect or whatever if the connection fails, but I'm not sure if PPTP supports that. Seeing that both machines aren't windows machines, why use an MS proprietary VPN protocol like PPTP rather than say OpenVPN which uses an SSL-type connection (AFAIK) & must be best supported on a CentOS box?
