As of Yesterday, I Had/Have a Network Problem

{NOTE: I had a stroke in 2011, and I have brain-damage because of the stroke}

I cannot figure this out, but as of April 29 2020, I was no longer able to update from the Debian servers.

{I am using the testing version of Debian}

All errors are the following:

403 Forbidden [IP: 67.60.157.81 8000]

I have changed the URL from

deb http://deb.debian{blahblahblah}

to

deb http://ftp.us.{blahblahblah}

and get the same result.

When I go to http://67.60.157.81/ I get to the "Apache2 Debian Default Page"

I did a traceroute and I got
1 67-60-157-81.cpe.sparklight.net (67.60.157.81)

Is this a problem with my URL, which has always worked before?

Is this a problem with "sparklight.net"? (my ISP)

In short WHAT THE {bad-word} IS GOING ON????

I currently have 92 packages to update, but I cannot do it.

HELP!

Thank you for any assistance, and because of my brain-damage, please keep it simple as possible.

Have a good day!

Howdy, kevinbenko, I had my stroke in 2015.

Divide & conquer.Debian Updates will have a port or ports assigned to that service. For example

port 80 = http
port 8080 = https
port 22 = ssh
etc etc.

Your port setting will usually be port 80, but you can check in /etc/apt.conf
From Ireland: 'ping -c1 67.60.157.81' succeeds
but 'ping -c1 67.60.157.81:80' for port 80 fails. So it seems like http services are down.

I suggest you try another debian server. A quick google for debian mirrors should sort that.

OK... I changed "http" to "https, and it is now currently updating.

It seems to have worked. Thank you all!

I will mark this thread as [solved]

What a kind way you have of telling me I'm a twit! Thank you for the correction. Yes, 443.

Which just goes to show the top of your head doesn't always hold the most accurate information
