I have an APC UPS connected to one computer: WEBSERVER, with apcupsd.conf settings UPSTYPE usb and NETSERVER on.
Another computer, FILESERVER with apcupsd.config settings UPSTYPE net, DEVICE webserver:3551, POLLTIME 40
For some year I've run this FILESERVER computer with POLLTIME 10 without problem. However, for the past couple of months I've been getting messages from that computer saying "Communications with UPS WEBSERVER lost". I've been moving the POLLTIME gradually up until it's now at 40, but I still keep getting these messages.
These messages are always immediately followed by "Communications with UPS WEBSERVER restored" within the same minute and typically within 5 to 30 seconds of the "lost" message, so nothing bad really happened.
Is there a setting to not send the apparently bogus messages? We don't have an actual power outage so ONBATTERYDELAY doesn't seem appropriate.
Are there any lost or other status messages in the webserver apcupsd log?
It could be just about anything... software updates, hardware etc. Are any of the servers connecting over wifi?
Have you tried replacing WEBSERVER with IP address to see if it is an intermittent DNS problem?
You manually get status from the file via the apcaccess command. That might provide some indication if you have a network problem.

There are 3 Power Failure messages from yesterday in WEBSERVER's log (and power is back within 2 seconds), but only 1 "Communications with UPS WEBSERVER lost" messages from yesterday and 11 today in the FILESERVER's log.

apcaccess status WEBSERVER:3551
That's an idea. I'll change to an IP address and see what happens.
It's been over a week using the server IP address and no communication lost messages. So that appears to have solved it. Why it has trouble with the hostname is another question, but one I'm not going to worry about.
