Question advanced routing, gateway question

Hello all, quite newbish to the forums first post, but ive been a dedicated slackware user since the '96
and its perfectly served my purposes for many lovely years, now im arised with a problem
that i can seem to put my finegr on, that or my logical thought proccess is broke ( nothing new there!)
A definate Advanced routing issue, but sadly prolly nothing i dont already know, just having alot
of trouble thinking it to a practical application. k got confused looking thru all the posts
about static gateways as im thinking most of them arent what im needing because i use no private
networking addresses for any of these machines, and those that are local work fine.

currently i have my entire network in such a manner: (might view as just wierd to some as to spanning
several comps) all the EX's are directly accessable their own internet ip's fully static and no dhcp:
Code:
EX1= Main-Nat/Firewall gateway for internal computers - SQL
EX2= Wireless Router /w wireless local users
EX3= FTP/Apache
EX4= Game servers (Muds,ircd,game engines)
EX5= Mail Server & Private opencanvas collab / paintchat serv

										Uplink/Line Provider GW

								 Ex1     EX2      EX3        EX4    EX5
								 /         \
							Local1		local2
							==============================================

							now my requirement now is to place another computer
							between all the others and the uplink acting practicly
						    like a gateway, what sole purpose is to monitor network
							traffic,bandwidth as well as possibly being a ddos protection
							for the other external machines, so all info must pass
							thru this machine before its routed to their proper machines.
to look like this:
										Uplink/Line Provider GW
										           |
									        my GW-Monitor

								 Ex1     EX2      EX3        EX4    EX5
								 /         \
							Local1		local2
Any idea's? or perhaps a in forum link to this ( i know there may be one but its difficult
to put a search out for somethign you cant properly place to words. Dyslekzia(lol) anyone? =D).
ahh i can feel the pitchforks and the rtfm'rs heading this way, comming to sites like this can be intimidating..

I'm not the best with networking myself, but it sounds like you are wanting a bridge. This can sit between the networks and use if for data monitoring.

Do a google search for

linux bridge
enternet bridge

etc..

should give you the info you need

This is a good tutorial here:

I am not a network specialist too but it is a bridge you want.

So bridge the interface linked to ISP line and that other for those machines.

But remember those two interfaces neither the bridge you will not reach them by IP. So add a third interface from where you can access the machine.

Good luck
