I'm very new to Linux. I've got RH 8.0 running on my PC
but I need to set up my ADSL account (USB modem) & Ethernet driver
but I just don't know how.
I've searched the Web & and used these guide lines
to set up my USB /ethernet modem.
I got a problem.
Pls. HELP.
Questions:
1)
My guide.txt states:
Kernel Had Supported Driver:
Check the directory " /lib/modules/¡K./net " if you could find "rtl8139.o"
Your kernel had supported RTL8139 series.
If your kernel doesn't support RTL8139 series, you should compiler driver
by yourself.
I could not find any driver rtl8139.o (at lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/usb.)
I have also download source code "rtl8139.c" but don't know what to do with it??
But I believe it detected automatic at my "Internet config. wizard" as
Realtek RTL -8139, SMC EZ Ca. & also check it used driver "3189too"
So I set up an Ethernet Card at "Internet Conf". Key in my Ip add,
Static Network routes, DNS, etc.
So far so good it got "ACTIVE" with an eth0.
Does it mean it is WORKING & is Active my "Ethernet Card"?
Have I got to install & compile my driver source code "rtl8139.c?
2)
Setup for ADSL Broadband modem. After key in my Ip add,
Static Network routes, DNS No., etc.
The device "ppp0" xDSL window message appears =
"Cannot activate network device ppp0"
Can anyone pls. advise what I did wrong?
Have I got to setup my xDSL modem after installing Ethernet?
Do I need a driver for ADSL modem or
is my setting (ip/DNS,etc)/password wrong?
