Access Linux box using windows very slow


I have FC4 box set in my LAN. I have installed samba to access using windows. I was accessing it before with very good speed. Now access my Linux box is very slow from windows. I was trying some firewall software call firestarter or some thing. After this all happen. There I have stopped the firewall service. But still it takes lots of time to access my Linux BOX. Also it seems to running lots of unwanted services.

Please help me

Don't know about the rest, but you can kill the services. Log in as root or use su to become root, then simply do

kill -1 <pid>

where <pid> is the pid of the service you want to kill. You can get a list of pids and service names by doing

ps -A -f

in a terminal. Note that if kill -1 doesn't work (always try it first) you can force a service to die by doing

kill -9 <pid>

although this is not recommended.

I am guessing your issue is some sort of packet filtering thing in the firewall application you tried that has not been stopped or is working incorrectly.
