A few easy questions about inetd

Glad to be posting here for the first time, hope you can clear some doubts I have about inetd services.

I've looked at the inetd.conf man page but it doesn't seem to answer my questions about bin files in lines such as:
Code:
uucp stream	tcp	nowait	root	/usr/sbin/tcpd	/usr/sbin/in.uucpd
Why are there in.uucpd and uucpd (without the "in.") binaries? what's the difference between them? why is it necessary to have the same file with two different names? and what does "in." mean anyway?

Thanks in advance.

The first uucp on the line is the name of the service, the second is part of the name of the binary. The format of the /etc/inetd.conf file is:
Code:
<service_name> <socket_type> <protocol> <flags> <user> <server_path> <args>
In your case, the uucp binary being run by tcpd is /usr/sbin/in.uucpd. As far as why the binary name is prefixed with in, I'm assuming (dangerous ) that it's short for inetd...

Hope that helps.
