Problem with Whatsapp on Android

I've 2 long time problem with Whatsapp not sure if only happens on Android or IOS as well.

1. Many times my photos posted and received did not show up in the gallery, due to the ".nomedia" file in the folder, I did not use disappearing message I don't know what caused that, and I tried both public and business versions of Whatsapp, as well as beta they all behaved the same, am I alone on this ?

2. I used Whatsapp desktop on both windows and Linux with Firefox and Chrome, my groups disappeared from desktop after some use, so that I could not send to groups via PC, I can't even search for them they just vanished, but they are still on the phone. The only way to temp fix that was to send a test message to the group on the phone, then it will show up on desktop and I can use it, any one know the fix to it ?

If you have Whatsapp on IOS AND Android, your problem could well lie there. I'm doing fine with Android & pc, my son has IOS & pc, but I wouldn't try for a third device.

I do not and will not use iPhone, and I believe the cause of the problem is more on the WhatsApp side, I even email to support and they simply gave faq as answer. I switched to Signal for couple years now, it worked differently and more stable, but I still have to use WhatsApp for work. I can't believe I am alone on this, or other people simply didn't care !

Comparing that post with post #1 leaves me confused. I have no problem with media. Try switching of disappearing messages and see if that helps. I have disappearing messages, but it's 90 days or some such.

I did not use disappearing message if you read correctly, and I did not change anything on the settings, it was Whatsapp/Android itself messing things up, the mentioned problem happened on 2 of my devices, the Nokia 5.3 and CAT S52. I don't know how come the ".nomedia" file on the image folder, I've to delete that to see the photos, or move them to some place else every time that's annoying.

Problems with Android device

I have also facing this issue on my WhatsApp but some of the tips that your issue will be resolved. First if you use any third-party app like GB WhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus, and any other then these WhatsApp will be show some issue. So need to use original WhatsApp, or business WhatsApp. Then your issue will be resolved.

Welcome to LQ, JenniferKTaylor.

@joboy: You mention your phones, but not their ram or storage capacities. It's quite easy to overload these with photos or media, and drastic measures could be taken on the basis that you have them backed up somewhere.

I am not the kind of person that keep tons of messages on phone, I used Whatsapp mainly for causal chitchat nothing really important, so that I will download the attachment, move them to a folder, and then delete the message, so that my Whatsapp is very clean. I did use 3rd party Whatsapp app before to disable the call feature, since that didn't work so I uninstall and install back the official version, I also used the business version but still the same problem.

What's your free storage looking like? It's in there somewhere, and it's easy to fill it with media.

My WhatsApp now has few messages no attachment, and I've got 25GB internal free, memory half of 8GB in use so it is plentiful not a problem.
