android tablet will not shut down

I have a superpad3 where I have installed some apk files (including some system viewer and file manager apps, so settings may have been altered). However, I have not 'rooted' it and I do not have root access. The problem that I am facing is that the tablet goes into sleep mode on pressing the power switch, and does not ask me for a shutdown. If left lying, as the battery is depleted, it shuts down. I have terminal app installed but 'shutdown' command does not work since I do not have permission.

Is there any software app for shutting down the android system or this can be done only through the hardware power switch? How do I solve this problem?

Thanks for your help.

An app called "power switch pro" claims it can do that. Including setting it so setting it face down will cause it to shut down (using accelerometer)

You might try uninstalling the system viewer and see if the problem goes away. I don't see a file manager app interfering with processes, or using the power switch for it's own purpose. A photo app might, trapping the power switch to use to snap pictures.

The 'problem' lies in that you need to hold it down for 'a few' seconds until it changes screen.
THEN you will see the slide for OFF.

That's the way they roll...
