Android madness

I am getting sick and tired of Android, just like I was sick and tired with m$ win many years ago. I bought a Nokia phone recently, the screen has some problems after some use, it's h/w problem, so I brought it to service. Before that I did a backup via Google and then reset it, that's the normal procedure we will do for phone repair. When I got back the phone I set it up and tried to restore the backup, but for unknown reasons the restore did not complete. I tried to do it again but there's no such option for me, I can't force a restore, or there's a trick to do that I don't know. After rechecking the backup it said there's no backup of this phone, how come, I did it and saw the date of the backup ! Now I can see my custom desktop and drawer with 'shadow icons' I can click to reinstall the apps, if I've not done the backup where do the settings come from !?

So I did the reinstall of apps one by one, to make thing faster I tried to transfer my apps via my backup phone via 'nearby share', that used to work and quite fast, but now I can't do that, the phones did not see each other, but I did that before the reset, what is up in there !!! when I done the reinstall of app the hard way, I tried to backup again, and it said the backup will start automatically after the phone has fully charged and idle for 2hrs., so that I can not force a backup either, alrite, I put the phone on charge dock and let it do its dirty work. Since I've no broadband at home and with bad cell reception, immediately it pops up an error that the backup can not start due to no internet, but wait a minute, did it just say it will wait for fully charged and idle for 2hrs. before the backup starts, how come the error pops out 2hrs. early ! who owns the phone anyway, surely it's not us but Google, everything works on its own mind on its own time, we users have to live with it and that's ridiculous !!! please dear developers to produce something human friendly we can actually use !

Beside the above crazy things I always have problems with Contacts. I got about 100 contacts, but after some use it will ‘expand’ to over 300 ! there are duplicates created by itself. Even crazy was, when I restore the contact from Google, it shows me my old phones recently used with the same contacts, the contacts I used with the same Google a/c, why are there multiple entries of the same thing !? How many copies of my data Google is secretly keeping huh !? you may ‘persuade’ me to use an iPhone, but sorry it’s not my cup of tea, simply the unstoppable screen transition effect made me sick and put me off.

I can't speak to much of this post, but, for what it's worth, I can say that I've experienced no issues with my contacts list in all the years I've used Android.

My extra contacts are from Whatsapp, Signal and FB..etc., they existed without phone no. just a name I don't know why, and the first/last name swapped and ruined the sorting. Normally I can simply search contact with first name such as John Lee, but now it duplicated as Lee John, not on one phone but all running on various different versions of Android, there seems to be no standard for that, even I corrected on Google web it does not reflect on the phone

Oh?? Do you have any suggestions??

OP, as far as the contacts go, you're not talking about Android/Google, but the individual apps. Like frankbell, I've had no problems with restorations from backups, but I *HAVE* had to adjust/configure apps again that were 'third party' to the phone.

I can't really tell the cause of my problem, but I found many duplicated contacts are empty with just a name, where with older phones, feature phones in particular I don't have such problem. I kept using the one I created with my Nokia feature phone, and then adding contacts over the years with smartphone. When I check the contacts with a text editor I can see lot of markup language and codes that not displayed on the contact, so that I recreate the contact, but after some use and phone changes the problem came back. The sorting/display order of contact names are not standard, for example the first and last name will swap when viewing on different made of phone, adding non English name created even more problem, it is best to edit the contacts on the phone in use instead of using Google web to make sure it displayed the way I wanted.
