Since then Lightning Calendar and Firetray are not working. Looking in the Addons tab, it says they are not compatible with the updated Thunderbird version.
Is there some straightforward way to solve this - and I do mean 'straightforward' - not technical.
I fear I will have to go back to windows if I can't use Calendar any more.
Edit: I've now also noticed that looking at list view showing emails, the "date" now displays only the time, without the date.
Amazed? Are you mocking me because I'm not technical and don't understand it?
Calendar has all my info in it, and now I can't access it.
You sent a link but didn't say what I need to do?
The link seems to show earlier versions of Thunderbird, but I can't see anything with Mint listed.
All I can see are some with '64' in are probably 64 bit, which I know I need.
It says ubuntuzilla, surely ubuntu is a different version of Linux?
Thanks so much for the suggestion. It does seem to have detailed instructions on what to do. I want to give it a go.
However, it's taken me a while to work this out, but as well as Lightning, I have two other AddOns that now don't appear to work. See the two attachments.
I now assume it's the Super Date Formater that is causing the Date column to display only the time. It's only doing it to emails received after the Thunderbird update, those received before still display as they should.
If that Addon is not working, I don't know why it doesn't display the entire date, but in a default format?
Can I go back to the previous Thunderbird version easily, in order to get all the Addons working again? They were no detailed instruction in the first reply I had, but it also seemed to be for Ubuntu, not Mint.
Thanks, I have looked at the link & #12
Am I right in assuming I go to the Thunderbird website and download there? If that is so, do I have to do something first with the TB version I have already, or will it 'overwrite' it?
If I install it, do you know if it's a very straightforward process - do I click on 'install' for example and it does everything automatically?
I'm sorry to ask such basic questions, but I'm not at all technical and don't really know what I'm doing.
1) I recommend backing up your Thunderbird Folders: ( --> Copying them to your desktop for example)
Code:
/usr/lib/thunderbird
/usr/lib/thunderbird-addons
/home/<your username>/.thunderbird <-- This one contains your E-Mails
2) Remove Lightning addon from Thunderbird addons menu (See picture)
3) Close Thunderbird
4) Open a Terminal Window and type the following (Or copy + paste it with CTRL + SHIFT + V)
You will probably have to enter your password and maybe confirm something by entering Y.
Code:
sudo apt-get install xul-ext-lightning
5) Once the installation has completed, close the terminal window and re-open thunderbird. Lightning should be working again. (You might have to get the lightning tab back from the dropdown menu "Events and Tasks --> Calendar"
Now the only problem is that Lightning is only installed in english. I asked in the launchpad thread where to put the .xpi language files to be recognized by Thunderbird. Please follow that thread to find answers to that.
I followed your detailed instructions and Calendar is now working again.
Thanks for your help with this for the hard-of-learning (that's me!)
I see the date column is still only displaying the time but not the date. I deleted the Super Date Format Addon (see post #5) in the hope it would resolve it, but it has made no difference.
Firetray still doesn't work either, so I can't see if I have new emails.
Should I start a new thread for these two problems perhaps?
