Something broke DRI on Radeon Mobility 7500

I lost DRI somewere along the way. I think it happened on some recent update through mintupdate. The DRI used to work fine, but now all I get is this message in Xorg.0.log:

(EE) RADEON(0): [dri] RADEONDRIGetVersion failed to open the DRM
[dri] Disabling DRI.

The DRM is there, lsmod says:

drm_kms_helper 29297 1 radeon
drm 162471 3 radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper
agpgart 31724 3 ttm,drm,intel_agp

What happened?! How do I fix this?

--edit-

It seems that it no longer likes "video=radeonfb:force_sleep" boot parameter I had in /etc/default/grub for forcing powersave. But why is that the case now when it used to work perfectly ok earlier?

Perhaps your kernel got updated and now uses KMS? KMS conflicts with radeonfb, which could cause problems along the lines of what you are seeing. What's the output of 'cat /proc/fb' ?

I think you're probably right. The machine doesn't seem to be consuming any more power without the force_sleep parameter, so I'ts likely that it's using KMS. I have however no idea how to check if this is the case . Anyhow, there is no problem with it now.
