Running Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya, recent upgrade of Chrome browser has update mgr hosed up.
So the update mgr gave the normal symbol that an update was needed, and it had to do with the Chromium browser I had installed that demanded an update. Well I did so as normal, now no updates are possible at all, some conflict between the older version I had and the newer one automatically installed. I think I've got a screen shot loaded here to show what the problem looks like. How do I clear this?
I've completely uninstalled this browser, never use it anyway.
If the package manager can't find a certain repository then it just ignores that repository and updates from all the others. The error in your second screenshot about a lock indicates that you tried to run a dpkg command as an ordinary user and not as root.
If you are not using Chrome any more, and no longer need the Chrome repository, run Software Sources from the main menu, click on Additional Repositories, click on Google, and then click Remove.
When you've exited Software Sources, re-run the Update Manager and report back.
Well, it seems to have healed itself overnight, don't know how or why, but an upgrade of 'poppler' became available and I did the upgrade just now and it worked. Don't know what happened but its alright now.
